Hi EC Teachers,
Have you been hired by a school board? Are you glad? Or are you back to your classroom? Are you required to make alot of changes in your teaching? Are you overwhelmed by the new job requirements. Maybe the lessons plans on the blog will help you. They are aligned with the new EC curriculum and the standards of the IRA. The guidelines are research-based.
The blog is back in service with major changes. The content has been impoved and the navigation is easier. The content has been aligned with the Ontario Curriculum for the Early Years. There a few free lesson plans.
After a full year of giving away all the lesson plans, I had to start charging a fee to be able to pay for the expenses of running the blog. My biggest expense is having to buy children’s books, professional books . T
Fifteen more lesson plans are in the queue to be uploaded. They will appear at a pace of 5 per month.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF THE “NEW” BLOG.moniquetoronto2000@yahoo.ca

During our summer refresh, the Emergent Readers site will be down most of the time. On occasion however, to facilitate our testing, it may appear to be live as it is now.
Please note that the site may not look or function properly during this time. We are expecting to launch our updated site on August 1, 2010.
Please stay tuned! and enjoy your summer

Hi all,
I made additions to two lesson plans: “Nicolas where ahve you been” and “Owl Babies”. It involves suggestions for vocabulary instruction fro ELLs children which kis very challenging for many teachers as it requires the ability to bride experience and new learning: check the section called “Preparation”. I have done a content analysis of target words for each book. This guideline is based on research competed in 2002 by Beck and other adn Vaughn, Mathes and others (2005).

Dear teachers,
If you are looking for lesson plans based on books you have never read or may have read but you don’t know how to develop literacy activities, check “The Cobbler’s Holiday”. It is a incredabibly well written and illustated “pourquoi” tale. It is equal in quality with “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’ s Ears”. It is a folktale from Pakistan, retold by Musharraf Ali Farooqi and illustrated by Eugene Yelchin. Farooqi is a Canadian author.
“Nicolas, where have you been?” by Leo Lionni is a strong story for studying a character and visual literacy.
Don’t miss “Diary of a worm” ppublished in early January.
Let me know what you think and what you would like to read. monique@ryerson.ca
