Happy new year! I posted a unit on penguinsbased mostly on an award-winner science books for children. It has great pictures and a rhyming text. To find it, type “penguins” in the search engine. Teachers who plan a unit on penguins at this time of the year, might find some new ideas. Don’t forget to show childre “The March of the Penguins”. The unit would also create a awareness of the importance of saveguarding the hab itat of the penguins.
There are also a few new thematic units: force and motionunder the category titles Technology. It combines previously posted lessons with guidelines for science activities. This unit would make an interesting innovation to the very tired theme of transportations. This makes a great transition between winter theme and spring themes. Plenty of hands-on- experiences for students in all grades. With some basic equipment, Newton’s laws can be explored by children in K-3.
The unit on Spring also combines previously posted lessons such as wind, rain, seeds, frogs etc. You will find several combinations of literacy and science activities. All good ideas to get out of the classrooms with the clipboard and the camera.
A natural follow up on Spring, look for a new lesson based on “Diary of a Worm“, written by the author “Click, Clack, Moo”. I extended the usual literacy activities with natural science activities. Young children love to observe worms and touch…some do. Worms are great for setting up terrarium and classroom composting. There are plenty of resources to make your prep easier. This could become a year-long theme. The classroom composting is a great year-long activity to recycle all that classroom paper.

I am very glad and proud to announce that I am posting the first lesson plan written by a student. She wrote it as a requirement for a course she is taking with me at Ryerson University. The focus of her lesson is the comprehension of a moral virtue. Congratulations!

I posted a long unit on “Wind” in the category called weather. Many sub-themes can be elaborated. It s also a four seasons theme. Give it a peek. Better, test some activities. Other than the literacy activities, you’ll find “friendly” science activities and wind crafts.
I found Royalty Free photos that are very useful.
